Registered CLINICAL COUNSELlor

Welcome to Thrive Teen Therapy!

My name is Sonali, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.). I began pursuing my education and training in the mental health field in 2016 and have since supported teens, adults, and families through goals relating to their mental health, employment, housing, addictions, and other life changes.

My strengths include helping clients gain awareness and minimize symptoms of anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, learning challenges, trauma, and body image concerns. I also support teens and families with crisis prevention and intervention using harm-reduction strategies. I value highlighting your strengths while you navigate the development of your identity, relationships, academic, athletic, and/or professional goals.

My approach is person-centred and humanistic integrating concepts and skills from CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based therapy, and Narrative Therapy. My goal is to promote independence by helping clients identify practical tools that they can apply to improve their daily functioning and foster their personal values and goals. I try to create a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental space where you can self-reflect and explore a lifestyle that feels healing and authentic to you. I also believe in preventative forms of health care as counselling can be valuable during difficult times and during periods of wellness. So, it is never too early or too late to come to therapy.

It is important to me that counselling acknowledges the evolving social contexts that affect our lives. I strive to provide inclusive and accessible support for marginalized and vulnerable communities, including LGBTQIA2S+ people, people with disabilities, Indigenous and Immigrant populations, and those facing systemic barriers. My lived experiences around the world and passion for travel lead me to prioritize accessible multicultural counselling. I speak English and Malayalam and welcome clients who speak either/both languages.

During my personal time, I enjoy makeup and fashion, photography and video editing, video games, yoga, reading, and spirituality.

I am eternally grateful for the trust my past and future clients place in me and I look forward to meeting you soon!
