Master’s Clinical Intern
Reduced Rate Sessions
Hi. I’m Leighton. I have a degree in Child and Youth Care and have completed the coursework for my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I have a deep compassion for youth and a strong passion to continue my work with teens. I have over 20 years of experience working alongside youth who have struggled with addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, painful family relationships, and past hurts.
Being a youth today comes with so many challenges. Trying to navigate school, work, family, relationships, mental health, identity, and more can be overwhelming at times, especially when painful events or difficult circumstances occur. My first job is to create a safe place for you to be yourself and know that where you are in life and who you are will be accepted unconditionally.
I use evidence-based models such as emotion focused therapy (working on emotions and past relational hurts that keep showing up), solution focused therapy, and trauma-focused behavioural therapy (helping your brain and body to heal). My goal is to work with you to figure out what you want or need in your life, then create a plan as to how we can get there. No matter how painful or difficult your circumstance, you are not alone.
In my free time, I love spending time with my wife and kids and dog, “Sparkles”, playing guitar, woodworking, camping (some may call it “glamping”) and participating in Tae Kwon Do. I have turned my love of coffee into a hobby and have recently learned how to make Vietnamese iced coffee, on top of already making tasty lattes. I also enjoy learning, especially when it comes to how we can connect meaningfully to others in our lives, even when we have been hurt, and the things we do to try and deal with that pain that may be causing more problems for us and how we can best heal and overcome these challenges.
I look forward to meeting you in session!
Leighton
